There has been a long history of research into the creation of effective driver surveillance systems to improve safety in moving vehicles. This problem is very important and requires the use of interdisciplinary scientific methods, including those from fields such as AI, but also electronics, psychology, and medicine. In this paper, we present an overview of current opportunities and new trends in driver monitoring systems operating in infrared light. Our second contribution is a system to analyze the driver condition while maintaining privacy of data.
