To facilitate the establishment of evidence-based priorities, researchers have recently focused on identifying interactions within and across specific subsets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This approach is known as “the nexus approach”. In dialogue with this literature, this paper presents both, the methodology and the preliminary findings of a research aimed to better understand the synergies and trade-offs between SDG14 (oceans, seas and marine resources conservation), SDG15 (protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss), SDG2 (ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition) and SDG8 (promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth). Together they constitute what we call “the Food Security-Economic Growth-Biodiversity nexus”. The paper develops a novel analytical framework, that extends the literature on SDG interactions by introducing the network approach as a natural extension of nexus thinking, allowing a better representation of the complex interactions that characterize the simultaneous pursuit of SDGs. The analysis of the network interactions of key targets related to the aforementioned SDGs, has shown us the importance of considering not only direct, but also the indirect effects, of the policies designed to contribute to specific SDGs.

摘要
