Several forms of SSTI infections are common in inpatient settings: cellulitis and Nec Fas; septic arthritis either surgical implants or native joints; and diabetic foot infection (DFI). Be aware long-term prognosis of DFI with amputation (Table 22.3) Always conduct probe test for diabetic ulcer (Table 22.2) then WiFl score (Tabel 22.4). For Nec Fas, LRINAC score (Table 22.12) is standard, but also Wall criteria (Table 22.11) is useful. For cellulitis, ALT-70 (Table 22.8) or NEW HAvUN score (Table 22.9) are available to back up your reason to admit (not admit) patients with cellulitis. Septic joint is a misnomer since majority of septic joint patients don’t present with full blown sepsis symptoms. Tap warm, red swollen joints unless contraindicated.
