Accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid growth of e-commerce has transformed consumer behaviour and placed new pressures on urban logistics systems. Although e-commerce has grown rapidly, urban logistics systems remain fragmented, with weak integration between forward and reverse freight flows and little coordination between freight and passenger mobility planning. However, with the support of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe funding, numerous new solutions and policy measures have been piloted and tested, offering significant opportunities to overcome the fragmentation of urban mobility systems and advance more sustainable models for e-commerce and urban logistics. In this chapter, we provide an overview of critical gaps in urban logistics research, focusing on the intersection of three foundational pillars: last-mile delivery, e-commerce, and circular economy strategies. Through real-world case studies, policy recommendations, and technological innovations, with special focus on emerging topics like micro-hubs, sustainable urban planning, and consumer engagement strategies, we connect urban logistics to broader sustainability and policy agendas.

摘要
