In this concluding chapter, I turn to a distinct educational setting that formed the core of my doctoral research: adult literacy teaching in Australia. The chapter underscores the vital importance of recognising learners’ personal histories as integral to their humanity and to any meaningful understanding of their educational experiences. By centring the cultural, linguistic, and life narratives of adult learners, the discussion illuminates how their identities and learning trajectories are shaped by complex social, historical, and personal factors. Through an exploration of these intertwined stories, the chapter challenges traditional, skills-based approaches to literacy education and advocates for pedagogies that honour and affirm the lived experiences of learners. Ultimately, it highlights the transformative potential of adult literacy classrooms that embrace diversity, cultivate dignity, and recognise the profound value of learning as a deeply human act.

摘要
