Sport-for-Inclusion Research: A Review of Literature and Advancement of a Theory
摘要
The linkages drawn by government institutions between youth sport and social inclusion have occurred rapidly over the past several decades, and with relatively little debate in policy circles regarding the efficacy of these claims (c.f., Crabbe 2008; Ekholm 2012; Maguire 2008; Hoye and Houlihan 2010; Spandler 2007). This has led to the subsequent rise in academic research seeking to evaluate sport’s viability in strengthening public values surrounding the social integration of diverse youth (Collins and Kay 2014; Dagkas 2018; Donnelly and Coakley 2002; Kelly 2011; Schaillée et al. 2022; Spaaij et al. 2014; van den Bogert 2022; Walseth 2004, 2016). Investigating scholars have pointed out how ‘marginalized immigrant youth’ are the most affected by social exclusion, and yet, their involvement in sport is the least understood in sport research (Dagkas 2018; Haudenhuyse et al. 2012; Spaaij et al. 2019).
