This chapter explores neurogenous causes of orofacial pain, focusing on the mechanisms, clinical presentation, and diagnosis of neuropathic pain disorders. Conditions discussed include trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia, and postherpetic neuralgia, as well as neuropathies secondary to trauma, surgery, or systemic disease. Pathophysiological concepts such as peripheral and central sensitization are reviewed alongside diagnostic tools including history, clinical examination, and neuroimaging. Multidisciplinary care is highlighted with the aim of improving function and quality of life so as to avoid delayed diagnosis, inappropriate treatments, and unnecessary dental procedures.
