Channels, Channel Models, and Metrics
摘要
After distinguishing Source, Line and Channel Coding, and Cryptology, the chapter introduces some typical channel models, discrete and continuous. The discrete memoryless channels treated are the Binary Symmetric Channel (BSC) and the Binary Erasure Channel (BEC). As continuous channels, Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and Small-Scale Fading are discussed. Others are briey mentioned. Different distance measures (metrics) are introduced; however, some do not conform to the formal mathematical definition of a metric. Those are Hamming distance, Euclidean distance, Lee distance, Product distance, and the Running Digital Sum.
