Morais e Vale Street, in the Lapa district of Rio de Janeiro, is characterized by a set of remaining eclectic townhouses protected by the Corredor Cultural. These townhouses hold value as an ensemble due to their morphology and typology, deeply connected to the city’s social and constructive memory, shaping the urban landscape and recalling figures like Manuel Bandeira, Chiquinha Gonzaga, and Madame Satã. While the street is being appreciated culturally, some properties remain deteriorated or underutilized with potential for new uses. This article, part of the ongoing research within the Master’s Program in Design and Heritage at UFRJ, outlines design guidelines for intervention proposals based on dialogue between old and new, aiming to preserve the street’s atmosphere and identity.
