The construction industry is one of the leading sectors responsible for significant resource and environmental depletion, and waste production. Hence, the demand for sustainable construction is increasing in the built environment, using Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a computational resource to generate digital modeling and Construction Materials Passport (CMP) to create digital records, promoting the Circular Economy (CE) in buildings. The novelty herein is to propose a comprehensive framework that integrates BIM with CMP in the light of CE principles to increase sustainability and efficiency in the construction sector. A bibliographic review of 25 articles, found in Scopus, is conducted to identify the correlation between BIM, CMP, and CE as a prior step to propose a methodological framework based on BIM-CMP integration and support the CE in the construction industry. This work insights that data management and complexity, lack of standardization for material passports, lack of or perceived implementation and training programs, elevated technological costs and infrastructure investment for small and medium-sized enterprises, and lack of efficient collaboration among the stakeholders are the main challenges in terms of BIM-CMP integration. This work outlines practical implementation framework, integrating BIM and CMP, toward minimizing the environmental impacts, promoting CE principles, and generating more sustainable buildings.
