This chapter presents the EcoMetaverse: Virtual Carbon Footprint Tracker, a unique approach promoting sustainability in the metaverse. As virtual worlds and digital environments continue to evolve in our reality, it is very crucial to consider their impacts on the environment. This chapter outlined a software platform used to track, visualize, and reduce carbon footprints based on activity in virtual spaces. The system determined emissions related to actions such as virtual travels and online events alongside digital consumption, providing immediate feedback about how users were affecting the environment. The chapter also framed how gamification and reward systems facilitated eco-friendly behaviors amongst individuals by providing users with motivations to implement sustainable actions. The chapter addressed the educational opportunities associated with the platform. This exploration of eco-friendly living illustrates the broader implications of sustainability within digital ecosystems while highlighting the role metaverse may play in cultivating a responsible and sustainable virtual future. The EcoMetaverse platform provides users the opportunity to create sustainable lifestyles within modern technologies and as a consequence facilitate awareness of their impact within virtual and real domains on a large scale.
