Be Circular. The Push of the City
摘要
The cities are places where a lot of pollution is produced due to the higher concentration of the population. However, they are the places where it is possible to intercept actions for change. To respond to sustainability issues, the idea of circular cities has developed and spread widely, especially in large European urban areas. This paper examines the city of Genoa, as a circular city, within the C City project. The project actions will be analysed looking at the contribution of design, in particular Service Design, through the analysis of projects and interviews, to verify the adaptation to the circularity criteria. Within the project process, co-design actions were implemented with the partnership and stakeholders, according to the principles of Service Design. In another context, touchpoints were designed to define the identity of the individual parts of the project such as to be coherent within the larger system. The results of the analysis describe an early-stage process in which a general vision characterised by a cross-sectoral approach emerges. This has highlighted parts of supply chains, such as food, that are accessible for concrete initiatives and actions by the city and its citizens. In conclusion, the paper defines the actions that the city of Genoa has planned to become a circular city and the contribution of Service Design and Design in the process.
