Perspectives on Exercise, Epigenetics, and Human Health: Challenges, Opportunities, and the Road Ahead
摘要
Accumulating evidence highlights the essential role of exercise in promoting health and preventing chronic diseases. Recent research reveals the intricate mechanisms underlying these benefits, with epigenetics emerging as a key player. Despite these promising insights, our understanding of how exercise influences the epigenome remains incomplete. Fundamental questions persist regarding the specificity, stability, and functional consequences of exercise-induced epigenetic modifications across different organs and life stages. Nevertheless, the field of exercise epigenetics will be at the forefront of biomedical research in the years ahead. By elucidating how physical activity induces these epigenetic modifications, we can gain deeper insights into its role in shaping our health trajectories. Furthermore, the translational potential of exercise epigenetics, particularly in identifying epigenetic biomarkers, could enhance our understanding of individual variability in response to exercise. These insights may inform precision medicine and guide drug development, further underscoring the importance of integrating exercise into holistic healthcare strategies.
