Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disorder influenced by environmental and genetic factors. This paper introduces a fifth-order adaptive self-modelling model aimed at understanding the involvement of epigenetic in the development of T2DM and its potential epigenetic treatment. The structure of the model is inspired by biological processes related to insulin resistance, inflammation, and glucose metabolism. The model uses multi-order adaptation to represent the causal relationship in disease development, where higher levels affect the adaptation of lower levels. This structure enables the system to characterize how long-term exposure to harmful inputs leads to dysregulation. At the same time, the introduction of therapeutic interventions at the epigenetic level enables comparative studies. This approach provides a dynamic perspective for understanding the development of type 2 diabetes and the importance of epigenetic mechanisms in disease progression and helps to study the reversibility and curative potential of T2DM at the epigenetic level.
