The rapid evolution of technological paradigms, coupled with increased system interconnectivity, fosters innovation and collaboration across sectors. However, this also leads to a broader attack surface and more sophisticated cyber threats, posing significant digital security and resilience challenges. To address these challenges, cybersecurity education and training play a crucial role in developing the necessary skills and awareness to manage complex cyber incidents effectively. Cyber Range (CR) training environments offer immersive, hands-on experiences across varied scenarios, aiming to enhance participants’ cyber Situational Awareness (SA), the ability to perceive, understand, and respond to threats in real-time. Virtual Reality (VR) technologies are emerging as powerful tools for augmenting CR platforms by providing interactive and immersive interfaces for engaging with dynamic threat environments. Despite growing interest, research on the impact of VR integration in CRs remains limited, particularly in improving SA, cognitive performance, and decision-making under stress. To address this issue, this study introduces an in-depth research into the role of immersive technologies in enhancing SA within CR training. The main contributions of this work, as listed in the introduction, aim to promote the systematic development and evaluation of immersive cybersecurity training environments.

摘要
