Categories of Creativity Empirically Identified from Virtual 3D Worlds
摘要
Never before has digital space and human creativity manifested through virtual 3D worlds been so readily accessible. This study presents an empirical observation of the diverse content created by users freely operating within digital 3D environments. Through the analysis of a thousand publicly available virtual worlds on the Neos VR platform, six distinct creativity categories were statistically identified, comprehensively covering the spectrum of virtual content. The individual categories are based on the predominant purpose of virtual worlds. The content-based proportionality of these categories was rigorously investigated. The findings of this research hold significant potential for informing the development of future technologies, enabling the enhancement of synthetic realities such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence, and ultimately supporting humanity’s enduring quest to explore and understand higher forms of reality. The proportional distribution of these categories suggests a balanced foundation for a future society filled with the best experiences, with plenty of dwelling in the fictions of virtual stories of a beautiful life.
