The chapter outlines AGCOM’s evolving role in monitoring and promoting digital and media literacy in Italy. The AGCOM’s national monitoring efforts, even through the establishment of a multi-stakeholder Coordination Committee, and the delegation of specific tasks to Regional Committees for Communications (RCCs), with particular reference to the promotion of digital civic education training courses in the secondary school, are analysed. The AGCOM activities, including the proactive contribution to international regulatory forums, align with the increasing importance of critical thinking and digital citizenship education as key tools to counter disinformation through media literacy.

The chapter outlines AGCOM’s evolving role in monitoring and promoting digital and media literacy in Italy.
