This chapter examines the corrective measures introduced by the EU Directive 2019/790 with regard to the online publishing sector, focusing in particular on its impact on the national legal systems. The introduction of a new related right to protect publishers of press publications was, in fact, intended to counter the phenomenon of digital free-riding by online platforms and news aggregators. The regulation aims to rebalance economic relations in the information market, ensuring fair remuneration for the digital use of editorial content.
