Conclusion
摘要
This concluding chapter synthesizes the key findings of this volume on young adults’ representation in political institutions, providing new data and presenting perspectives from across the globe at different levels of government. It revisits the importance of youth representation and identifies challenges faced by young candidates and young elected politicians across different contexts. In more detail, we summarize the historical trajectory of descriptive representation trends, examine the impact of institutional reforms on representation and delve into the structural barriers young people face in entering political office, especially at the party level. In the latter part of this chapter, we highlight the theoretical and empirical contributions of the volume, such as expanding the scope of analysis to non-Western countries, examining representation at the subnational levels and further testing the link between descriptive and substantive youth representation. Finally, this conclusion outlines directions for future research, emphasizing the need for intersectional cross-national approaches to better understand and promote the inclusion of young adults in politics.
