Employing thematic content analysis and discourse analysis, this paper analyses a corpus of opinion articles from the online press in Romania two years into the Russian-Ukrainian war and, more specifically, the visibility of Ukrainian refugees in relation to daily life in the host country. The first part of the article develops the analytical framework of the research from the perspective of literature on “media and refugees”, including recent research on information and debate practices related to the humanitarian crisis of Ukrainian refugees. The second part of the article presents the main results of the analysis of media discourse, focusing on the thematic patterns and representations of refugees in relation to their everyday life and on media positioning towards audiences through claims and evaluations. On this basis, we interpret the research data from the perspective of the ways in which the press places the audience in specific regimes of engagement. One of the main conclusions points to the fact that daily life and the identitarian construction of refugees in areas of settlement are not the object of extensive and in-depth coverage, being approached rather randomly. Refugees are visible in the triggering context of the crisis, after which their identitarian trajectory in areas of settlement is no longer a topic on the agenda or a theme for debate.

摘要
