This chapter introduces you to the book and what I want to achieve through it. The introduction explains what this book does and the key topics and themes it addresses. Some important context is provided about where the imprisoned Black women’s narratives originate as well as a brief nod to previous literature that explored similar ideas to this book. Most importantly, this chapter details a powerful call to arms. This call to arms tells you all you need to know about why Black women in prison matter, why you should care, and why this book solely focuses on Black women. Lastly, the chapter provides a brief overview of each chapter and the structure of the book. This gives the reader an understanding of the key themes and how the chapters interweave and tie together to create a cohesive and connected book.
