Life After the NICU
摘要
For NICU families and babies, leaving the NICU is the end of one journey and the beginning of another. On Discharge Day we discuss follow-up plans with primary care providers and what is known as the “Neonatal Follow-up Clinic.” For some families, a baby with residual complications requiring continued care presents financial and cultural challenges we must consider. We often find a discrepancy between how a family interprets how well the child is doing compared to what the medical providers’ interpretation of doing well really means. Continued communications with parents continue to provide valuable lessons—for us as medical professionals and for many of our medical students.
