Emergency!
摘要
Follow me as I navigate through one of my busiest days covering calls for deliveries along with a third-year medical student who is assigned to shadow me. The reason to request to have a neonatologist attend a delivery can range from routine to extremely urgent. That is why having at least one person assigned to cover deliveries is needed in hospitals with a high number of deliveries. The day carries an interesting flux of emotions. An encounter with one family would include a discussion on the details of their baby’s resuscitation and need for admission to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in critical condition. Few minutes later, with another family, it would be to congratulate them on the arrival of a healthy baby that does not need further observation in the NICU.
