A fundamental problem for inclusive practice is that its application is not agreed upon and is never applied consistently across systems. Individuals therefore find themselves unable to work in ways that they wish to and that policy, theory, or training is frequently calling for. Numerous administrative, managerial, resource-based, inter-relational and practical challenges mean that many practitioners are frustrated by the very notion of inclusion. They wonder what they can actually achieve as one small voice within the whole. This chapter explores these challenges and what we can do as individuals in a much larger system across all levels of authority. Drawing upon the author’s personal and professional experiences as a researcher, teacher, and parent, alongside the wider literature, this chapter particularly considers the bottom-up actions that can arise from acting as advocates for each other, engaging with the collective, and being alert to the possibilities of moments.
