Inclusive education is often described as a complex conceptual framework, encompassing multiple interpretations of what inclusion means and its role in countering exclusionary pressures in education. Research on this topic has, to a large extent, contributed to the further expansion and diversification of this field, shifting from the traditional focus on ensuring the rights of students with disabilities and special educational needs to quality education in schools and higher education to the need to build a culture of inclusion that enhances participation and empowerment for all learners within the educational system. To better understand this shift, this chapter employs topic modelling, a statistical tool for extracting latent variables from large datasets, applied to the database of scientific abstracts submitted to the European Conferences on Educational Research over the past twenty years. The analysis permits a deeper understanding of the evolution of some key variables in European research on inclusive education, such as the number of contributions presented, trends in the topics addressed, the collaboration networks established by authors, and the geographical distribution of the abstracts. The analysis and results identify the main trends in this field and suggest potential future directions for research.
