In today’s fast-paced development landscape, software engineering faces increasing pressure to produce robust and efficient systems rapidly. Over the last years, Model-Based Development (MBD) has increased its added-value as a promising alternative to traditional manual coding through automated simulation, early validation, and formal verification. The present paper presents a detailed comparison between MBD and manual coding by combining insights from a literature review and conceptual analysis. A detailed examination is provided concerning methodology, advantages, limitations, and implementation guidelines. Furthermore, the paper also discusses potential hybrid approaches that leverage the strengths of both methods while addressing challenges in critical domains such as automotive, aerospace, and embedded systems.

摘要
