This document provides a template for understanding the surface wear of the Top Drive wash pipe assembly where the packing is sealing and rotating on the wash pipe. Wash Pipes are chrome plated and ground to ensure proper sealing, and reduced friction, also seals are available in 5000 psi standard temperature or 7500 psi high-temperature options. Due to the high pressures and surface speeds involved in this arrangement, the service life of the wash pipe and its packing are limited. Drilling mud leaks are therefore common on many drilling rigs, causing contamination and damage to be associated components, environmental disruption and as a result NPT for a certain period. In drilling rigs, the unit of measurement for the service life of the wash pipe assembly of the Top Drive is measured with hours, and this time varies depending on the material of the wash pipe surface and seals, periodically lubrication as per manufacturer's instruction, as well as the RPM of the rotor and from the drilling mud pressure, temperature, and rheology (mud weight, viscosity, amount of abrasives, chemical compound). Based on experiments, even considering the factors mentioned above, the average operating time of the wash pipe assembly is estimated at about 1000 h. In this article, proposals are given for the research reasons of the wash pipe surface wearing.

摘要
