Development of an Environmental Sustainability Framework for a Multi-Gas Analyzer and the Impact of Emerging Technologies Using Python
摘要
Environmental monitoring systems, also known as gas detectors, are electronic devices that detect and measure the concentrations of various gases emitted from industrial processes, automobile emissions, biomass combustion, and other sources. This study presents the development of a novel, portable, and efficient multi-gas emission analyzer tailored to the Nigerian market. The device simultaneously measures six key air pollutants: Particulate Matter (PM2.5 and PM10), Ammonia (NH₃), Methane (CH₄), Hydrogen Sulphide (H₂S), and Carbon Dioxide (CO₂). Additionally, it records environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, date, time, and location for selected Nigerian communities. This study evaluates the impact of emerging technologies on environmental sustainability through a case study in the gas-flaring regions of the Niger Delta, Nigeria. The developed system uses Python software to incorporate the Internet of Things (IoT), data visualization, and cloud computing. A unique sustainability framework was developed to enhance environmental data collection, accessibility, and analysis. The findings indicate successful implementation of sustainability goals, improved device mobility, and ease of maintenance. The device was developed at a reduced cost using locally sourced materials such as casings, leads, and cables. The application of emerging technologies in this study enhances customer satisfaction, reduces operational errors, and facilitates seamless integration of cyber-physical systems across the value chain.
