This chapter describes the components of female and male genital anatomy. Physicians should have a foundational understanding of genital anatomy and their embryological origin to diagnose and manage genital skin diseases. To identify diseases in genital anatomy, physicians should know the normal changes in genital anatomy across the lifespan. Beyond typical female and male genital anatomy, physicians should know variations in sex characteristics that may occur during sex development. Lastly, genital anatomy in gender diverse populations in the context of gender-affirming surgeries is described.
