This population endures violence, discrimination, lack of quality healthcare, and paucity of laws protecting their rights. The purpose of this chapter is to outline the inequities experienced by the TG population and discuss recommendations for providers and members of society to improve these inequities. Such knowledge should be included in the nursing and medical curricula as well as in continuing education programs. Speaking with TG individuals to identify their needs and including this input in research will enable the healthcare system and society to improve inequitable treatment. Based upon this research, policies can be developed to protect this marginalized group.
