Healthcare providers’ exposure to pharmaceutical and medical device industry marketing creates conflicts of interest, potentially compromising clinical decision-making and patient care. This chapter examines the scope and impact of industry-provider relationships on healthcare delivery. Analysis of previous research demonstrates that industry interactions significantly influence provider behavior, leading to increased prescribing of branded medications, higher utilization of controversial drugs associated with adverse patient outcomes, and elevated healthcare costs without improvements in care quality. Studies reveal a notable discrepancy between providers’ and patients’ perspectives on industry relationships, with patients expressing heightened concerns about potential bias in clinical practice. Evidence-based interventions are proposed to address these challenges, including enhanced transparency requirements for financial relationships and the elimination of industry-sponsored gifts and meals. Robust policy measures are advised to safeguard medical decision-making integrity and patient welfare.
