摘要

It is proposed that patients are the most important stakeholders of the implant industry and that business ethics in this industry should be subservient to medical ethics. It is also argued that a person with an implant that replaces the functionality of a natural organ has an inalienable right to that implant that is stronger than the rights following with ownership. The chapter advocates for the development of medical implants that are affordable in low-income countries, and against the use of implants for the cosmetic alteration of normal and healthy human bodies. In conclusion, 17 ethical principles for the implant industry are recommended.
