Standing in the Dâr: Shrinking the Body Towards the Vertical Axis in Alevi Rituals
摘要
This chapter examines how specific postures, known as dâr, are dynamically embodied within Alevi ceremonial gatherings as expressions of devotion and continuity in the Alevi spiritual path. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork, it explores how the enactment of these postures materializes collective memory by invoking venerated historical figures whose remembrance strengthens both spiritual lineage and cultural resilience. By situating these ritual practices within the socio-cultural challenges of contemporary Alevi life at the margins, the chapter highlights how physical and spiritual vulnerabilities become vital resources for sustaining identity, belonging, and survival.
