Assessment of skills acquisition happens on specific times and environments. Workplace-Based Assessment (WPBA) aims to engage the students whilst they practice the skills. This modality is an integral part of the assessment of competency. The student is watched at his comfort and convenience without specific examination settings. This form of assessment is expected to take place on a day-to-day basis but with specific objectives. There are many WPBA tools used across the world; the most commonly used tools are grouped into four categories namely mini CEX and DOPS, CSR and CBD, logbooks and feedback from peers, patients and coworkers. Feedback is integral to formative assessment and the development of competencies. This chapter describes the WPBA and the significance of feedback in competency based education.
