The Art of Mentoring Dental Students
摘要
Like other professions, dentistry is experiencing a rise in establishing a mentoring culture that fosters and encourages personal development. Whether you are in your first year of dentistry or are newly transitioned to a different practice, you will likely face a learning curve as you adjust to the norms and procedures of your new setting. A mentor brings valuable experience and insights, providing guidance and support. In contrast, a mentee is keen on growing, learning, and evolving professionally or personally whilst engaging with a mentor. Certain essential behaviours from mentors and mentees can significantly improve effective mentoring, regardless of whether the relationship is formal or informal. This chapter examines the characteristics a mentor should possess and discusses the importance of a mentee's self-awareness in cultivating a fruitful and productive relationship.
