Professional Liability, Risk Management, and Safety of Patients with Permanent Synthetic Substance Injection Illnesses
摘要
This chapter addresses the legal, ethical, and practical challenges faced by plastic surgeons who treat patients with complications arising from permanent synthetic substance injections. These patients, often victims of unregulated aesthetic practices, present complex reconstructive needs with uncertain outcomes. This chapter explores professional liability frameworks, the distinction between obligations of means and results, and the heightened risk of malpractice claims in aesthetic medicine. Strategies for risk management, patient selection, expectation management, and shared decision-making are examined in detail. Additional focus is given to informed consent, the role of proper documentation, the use of communication technologies like WhatsApp, and the importance of medical liability insurance. The aim is to provide professionals with a comprehensive understanding of how to navigate this high-risk medical-legal terrain while preserving patient safety and professional integrity.
