The Laws of Mechanics enable us to study any kind of motion once the forces and the initial conditions are known. There is however a special case that deserves to be examined first, also in view of its numerous applications: the static solutions, or equilibrium solutions, to the equations of motion. We shall then devote the present chapter to the conditions that allow, and guarantee, a system to be at rest. After that, we will pass to examine the full equations of motion.

摘要

The Laws of Mechanics enable us to study any kind of motion once the forces and the initial conditions are known. There is however a special case that deserves to be examined first, also in view of its numerous applications: the static solutions, or equilibrium solutions, to the equations of motion. We shall then devote the present chapter to the conditions that allow, and guarantee, a system to be at rest. After that, we will pass to examine the full equations of motion.
