Mobile online datingdating constitutes a distinct form of parasocial interactionparasocial interaction, shaping perceptions of intimate scriptsscripts and extending beyond the concrete use of dating appsdating apps influencing the broader dating culturedating culture and social organizing at large. First, the specifics and characteristics of mobile online datingmobile online dating are explored, providing a comprehensive overview of empirical insights into the psychological mechanismspsychological mechanisms, meanings, and practicespractices that shape how subjectssubjects use dating apps, how they date and mate and how the practices affect subjects, sexual and intimate scripts, social dynamicssocial dynamics, and the culture (“Zeitgeist”). Nowadays, we find ourselves in the era of dating fatiguefatigue, a rising and collectively experienced phenomenon that is conceptualized as a negative self-fulfilling prophecy and a downward spiralling social dynamic. In the chapter, mobile online dating fatiguemobile online dating fatigue is depicted in nuance, explaining how dating fatigue emerges, how it is negotiated in private and public discoursepublic discourse, and how subjects navigate subjugation, incorporate negative experiences, cope, and adopt resistive practices, including alternative approaches such as InstagramInstagram Dating.
