Artistic Design Transformed into Kinetic Art Object with the Help of Fluid Power
摘要
Kinetic art is a branch of art through which artists create moving objects, which can be considered works of art, the main purpose being not functionality, but an aesthetic one. One such example is the Water Collector (or Water Wheel) which is part of the Ivan Patzaichin Memorial built in Tulcea, along with 5 other artistic works. In order for the artist’s vision to be translated into a dynamic object, collaboration was needed between an artist, a designer and a contractor specialized in metal constructions. The energy source, which was initially supposed to be water from the Danube, proved to be insufficiently powerful to set the water wheel in motion, consequently it was necessary to use a hydraulic unit that would set the wheel in motion, at a speed of 1 rotation/min. The Research Institute for Hydraulics and Pneumatics in Bucharest carried out the project, designed and created the hydraulic drive system and participated in the physical realization and commissioning of the work.
