Safety Valves – The Use of CFD for Numerical Tests of Valves and Experimental Verification on the Test Bench in the “Zetkama” Laboratory

The parameters that safety valves should have are the opening time of the passage and the closing time of the passage. A mathematical model of valve opening and closing was developed using the principles of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. Numerical calculations were made related to the resistances that arise during the rapid flow through the safety valve, the cavitation that occurs, which affects the opening and closing times. Nozzles of different shapes were analyzed, as well as different shapes of the expansion part of the valve body. The results of numerical calculations were compared with the results of tests carried out in the Laboratory of the “ZETKAMA” company in Sosnowiec. The results were compared.
