The fight against the human-driven ecological crisis requires immediate action on several fronts simultaneously. First, it is necessary to reduce the use of natural resources, production processes, pollutant emissions, and human population growth at the source. In addition, urgent efforts must be invested in research and development and in the implementation of various clean technologies in the energy, transportation, agriculture, and food sectors, as well as for transitioning to models of Green Chemistry and Green Engineering. The third front concerns changes in economic models—replacing capitalist models of growth that sanctify consumption with models focused on sustainability, prosperity, and greater equality, as does Doughnut Economics.” However, without sociocultural alternatives and improved personal habits, no headway can be made against such a severe and impending crisis. It is, therefore, necessary to adopt models that integrate socioeconomic and environmental aspects (e.g., sustainability models) and to return to traditional values of cooperation, egalitarianism, and the promotion of the common good.
