Metabolic Effects of Combined Hormonal Contraception and Its Use in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a set of signs and symptoms that involves different specialties, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Dermatology, and, of course, Gynecology, among others. Its frequency is high, and its impact on all other systems and organs, as well as on the patient’s self-esteem, makes its study and treatment a priority. This text analyzes the metabolic impact of the disease and the role that oral contraceptives (OC) can play in its treatment.
