Gender, Space, and Geopolitics in the Context of Nepal: A Focus on Localization and Globalization
摘要
This paper draws evidence on women and gender politics in Nepal during the time of globalization. The paper further critiques the urban/rural dichotomies and the challenges that the rural Nepal undergoes as due to globalizing economic impetus, thus creating further hindrances to the women’s roles and participation in economic and everyday maneuvering of contemporary Nepal. Additionally, in this paper, it has been critically comprehended as how globalization has been constructing new kinds of spatial segregation amidst spirited local movements. However, in women’s movements and their challenges to patriarchal norms in agricultural cooperatives, women have still established their own spheres of independence and power. Yet, globalization has introduced new challenges, including the formation of gendered spaces in urban environments—debating further the incessant and imperative role of women, both urban and rural, in shaping Nepal as a nation-state.
