Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century, and the banking sector is recognised as playing a significant role in efforts to combat it. This bibliometric analysis aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the main trends, research directions and contributions in the literature related to the banking sector’s involvement in the fight against climate change. The methodology used in this analysis is based on collecting and analysing bibliometric data from a wide range of relevant academic and institutional sources. The results indicate a significant increase in academic interest and research on the role of the banking sector in climate change mitigation over the last decade. The main research directions identified include climate risk assessment in the banking industry, developing and implementing sustainable financial instruments, and the analysis of climate finance policy and regulation. There is also increased diversity in the contributions of authors from different fields such as economics, finance and environmental management. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of research on banking strategies for climate change mitigation, identifying research gaps and suggestions for future directions.
