The growing technology is not only affecting specific sectors but affecting all sectors, and the educational sector is not an exception for it the educational sector is being highly affected by the growing technology in today’s world. Latest technologies, such as chat GPT, have emerged their paths in the educational system where it is seen that students are using chat GPT as it is making it easy access for students to copy-paste text from already existing texts with no fear of getting caught in the act of plagiarism. This is not a sign of a standard education system about whether the students are actively involved in using the chat GPT or is just being used in academics data regarding this issue is only being recorded from Western countries, whereas data on this issue from developing nations such as India is less recorded from the research perspective, making it necessary for a clear picture of this issue from the research point of view. The present research aims to evaluate the status of chat GPT usage in the South India region where it is seen that chat GPT is being used in educational-related activities however, when educational backgrounds are considered then, it is seen that medical students are less involved in using the chat GPT and arts and commerce departments students are seen to be using the chat GPT in the highest amount than the students of other two departments. when compared to the students from the engineering arts and commerce departments.
