Understanding the Psychological Roots of Gender-Based Discrimination in Corporate Leadership in Moroccan Context
摘要
Leadership constitutes a key lever for effective managerial practices. In a context where gender biases remain present within organizations, this study aims to assess employees’ perceptions of decision-makers’ gender in crisis situations. Through a quasi-experimental study involving 123 employees, we presented various crisis scenarios accompanied by two distinct managerial responses. Participants were asked to associate each decision with an assumed gender of the decision-maker. The results reveal a pronounced tendency toward gender-based discrimination. Decisions perceived as creative or optimal were more frequently attributed to managers of the same gender as the respondent, reflecting an implicit gender bias. Furthermore, male participants’ responses suggest the perception of a glass ceiling hindering women's access to decision-making positions. This research highlights the persistence of gender stereotypes in Moroccan professional environments. It underscores the risks such biases pose to long-term organizational performance, notably through internal tensions and a weakening of interpersonal cohesion.
