From Representation to Impact: How Women on Boards Drive Corporate Excellence
摘要
The appointment of women to Boards of Directors has become a significant concern in corporate governance, reflecting both ethical considerations and business imperatives. Traditionally, corporate boards have been male-dominated, leading to homogeneous decision-making and a lack of diverse perspectives. However, increasing gender diversity in boardrooms has demonstrated positive impacts on corporate performance, risk management, innovation, and stakeholder engagement. Gender-diverse boards contribute to stronger governance frameworks, aligning corporate practices with global sustainability initiatives, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5 on gender equality. Empirical and theoretical studies suggest that companies with greater female representation on their boards experience enhanced financial returns, improved innovation, and more effective risk management. Despite the business case for board diversity, challenges remain, including institutional resistance and cultural biases. This paper explores the impact of women on corporate boards, examining both the advantages and obstacles associated with gender diversity in governance structures. It further assesses the current legal and policy frameworks supporting gender inclusivity in boardrooms and proposes strategies for fostering greater representation of women in corporate leadership.
