In this chapter, we apply our theory of intergenerational justice to the challenges posed by climate change. As it is easy to envision the consequences of harmful environmental choices, we can also imagine that there is a kind of justice that is owed to the people who will have to live with those choices after we are gone. Specifically, we consider how the environmental damage caused by climate change affects the opportunities available to younger and future generations. Beyond diagnosing the injustice, we describe the duties, arising from our theory, in addressing the climate crisis in order to act in accord with intergenerational justice.
