Sexual violence is a phenomenon influenced by social, cultural, and political factors. These factors contribute to the silencing of victims, concealment of the problem, resolving issues within the family, and the low social status of the victims in the family hierarchy. Palestinian society in Israel is considered an Indigenous minority and endures discriminatory government allocation of resources and societal oppression, so that sexual violence victims’ lack trust in formal systems, and care services are often insensitive to Palestinian society’s cultural characteristics. The chapter illustrates four forms of oppression experienced by Palestinian sexual violence victims: oppression due to their national Palestinian affiliation; experiences of government institutional oppression and discrimination as a native minority; women’s experiences of discrimination by Palestinian society that attributes superiority to men; and cultural values that prioritize solving family problems within the family in an informal way.
