Ecology–Urbanization Nexus: Assessing Urban Ecological Security in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area, India
摘要
The chapter provides an in-depth evaluation of Urban Ecological Security (UES), emphasizing the impacts of urbanization pressure and ecological sensitivity within the context of the interconnections between urban ecology and development in Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA). Assessing UES is crucial for promoting sustainable urban planning and ecological health monitoring. The primary aims is to assess the ecological security status of the study area which is one of the rapidly expanding metropolitan areas of eastern India using advanced geospatial modeling techniques. The outcomes of this research contribute to the advancement of methodologies in the realm of UES assessment. Moreover, the results offer valuable and scientifically sound insights that can guide the optimization of land-use planning strategies, potentially leading to enhanced ecological security in urban areas. In addition, this study underscores the importance of considering ecological security as a fundamental aspect of urban development, aligning with the broader goals of sustainability and environmental preservation.
